Condition:
Well-preserved for an operational recon print. Some emulsion wear, handling marks, and one corner missing from where the photos were originally taped together in-field, but the image remains sharp with huge detail—German vehicles, collapsed structures, the outer mole, pens, slipways and Allied blockade ships all visible. A proper intelligence plate, not a souvenir print.

An exceptional and historically significant reconnaissance photograph taken over the Saint-Nazaire U-boat base during June 1944. This image captures one of Germany’s most critical Atlantic submarine facilities immediately after sustained Allied bombing.

Visible are the shattered shipyard sheds, fortified harbour walls, the long southern mole, warehouse destruction, and clusters of German military vehicles and equipment across the docks. Offshore, dozens of Allied ships can be seen forming the blockade line beyond the breakwater.

Saint-Nazaire was one of the most heavily defended and strategically vital U-boat bases in Europe, and reconnaissance material from this period is extremely scarce—especially originals with this level of detail and clarity.
