Original vintage Salama battery promotional matchbook sleeve, produced for the Finnish and Swedish markets and printed by Mainostikku Hamina.

The design leans hard into post-war industrial confidence, using lightning symbolism and strong typography to sell the idea of instant starting power. The slogan translates roughly to “lightning-fast start”, reinforcing reliability in cold Nordic conditions.

The reverse features a clean line illustration of the battery factory operated by Akkuteollisuus Oy / Ackumulatorindustri AB, proudly billed as the country’s largest accumulator plant — peak mid-century industrial flex.

A cracking piece of automotive, industrial, and graphic design ephemera, made to be used and thrown away, and now increasingly hard to find intact.
