Urban Legends Club Ep1: The Stranglers In The Graveyard

[DISPLAY_ULTIMATE_SOCIAL_ICONS]

Growing up, we all had those urban legends and myths. Big, scary monsters lurking where we dared not go, witches ready to kidnap you, or something equally stupid.

But back then, we believed it. We felt it. We lived it. 👣 We had nightmares about it. 🕯️ Each week will have a different story, some by the Nostbox crew and our friends and from you guys. Want your story featured? Find out at the bottom of the post.

Here’s Episode 1: The Stranglers In The Graveyard

Urban Legends Club Episode One

The Haunting of the Graveyard House

When I’d visit my grandparents in Birmingham, their house was an old church split into three houses. And, of course, it came with a graveyard right outside the bedroom window—the bedroom me and my brother always slept in.

My granddad would spin ridiculous tales over the years, building this whole saga about Stranglers lurking in the graveyard. He’d keep adding new chapters, making it sound like a running series. Me, my brother, and our cousins ate it up. We were obsessed. Our imaginations were wild back then.

When my auntie was a kid, she would never go upstairs if she on her own in the house. Popping down to her friends if she needed a wee. She was convinced there was something on the stairs just to add more drama.

The Stranglers: A Family Myth Made Real

We’d beg to walk the dog at night, just to see if we’d spot a Strangler. Or we’d peer out the window on foggy winter mornings… just checking.

Then, one night, my granddad called up my uncle and asked him to hide in a bush right in the middle of the graveyard. We all went out with the dog like usual. A bit of noise from the bushes… then more rustling. And then, out of nowhere, a dark figure came flying out of the bush.

We legged it, screaming our heads off, and didn’t sleep a wink that night. 😂👻

The Reveal: Uncle Gary…

Eventually, we found out, it was just Uncle Gary. The myths were over. The imagination, the nightmares, the wonder. We’d still walk quickly past with the dog…just in case.

My brother was three years older than me, would probably start growing out of these span stories and they wanted it to end naturally.

One that was probably completely hilarious to them, but scared the living piss out of us!
